Grey Scale for Assessing Staining (A03)
Gri Skala — Lekelenme (A03)
Reference scale used to grade objectively the staining of the adjacent fabric during fastness testing. Compliant with ISO 105-A03, nine pairs of matt grey-white strips.
Model technical data
- Nine pairs of matt grey and white strips.
- Grading steps: 5, 4-5, 4, 3-4, 3, 2-3, 2, 1-2 and 1.
- Grading system in accordance with ISO 105-A03.
- Objective grading of the degree of staining on the undyed adjacent fabric.
- Ensures comparability of test results between laboratories.
Physical specifications and utilities
| Electrical supply | Manual / passive base apparatus; no mains supply assumed. |
|---|---|
| Power / connected load | Approx. 0 W connected load for preliminary planning. |
| Overall instrument dimensions | Approx. 160 × 110 × 15 mm (W × D × H). |
| Instrument weight | Approx. 0.05–0.15 kg net. |

Dimension order and approximate values are stated in each row. Packaging data are separate from instrument dimensions and net mass. Approx. rows are preliminary engineering estimates based on comparable equipment and function/capacity; they are not verified manufacturing measurements or standard requirements. Installation and shipment are finalised against the approved drawing and nameplate. Estimate scope: one scale or small consumable pack; varies with pack quantity.
Specifications, dimensions, and power requirements are approximate and subject to change without prior notice for continuous design improvements.
Product technical specifications and images may vary according to manufacturing conditions and applicable standards.
Test and configuration
- Measured output / function
- Visual grading of staining
- Parameters selected for the method
- Correct scale type, illumination and viewing conditions
- Verification points
- Scale condition, service period and reference traceability
Listed methods are application references. Suitability is established by assessing the selected hardware, current method and calibration together.
Test parameters for the reviewed method
Values belong to the stated source edition. Test recipe, fixture and delivered instrument configuration are selected together.
BS 1006:1990, A03 / ISO 105-A03 · 2.1, 2.5
- The staining scale has a white first member; both members match at grade 5, with increasing contrast in other pairs. Use five principal or nine half-step grades to compare unstained and tested adjacent fabric. Specimen colour change is a separate A02 assessment.
Control and recording specification
The following are method-specific software/recording requirements; delivered software modules are defined by the order scope.
- The need for integrated software depends on the method and selected hardware; manual instruments use an external test record.
- Method code and edition, specimen ID, operator and selected test parameters are linked to the record.
- The calculation and endpoint are defined by the selected method edition; instrument signals and operator assessments are kept distinct.
- Raw measurements, units, valid/invalid test flags and the reported result remain traceable.
- Calculations are checked against known inputs and an independent calculation; sensor channels are checked against calibration values.
